Tank cover without central support in Upper Austria.
The Steinhögl family relies on a textile AGROTEL Domed Roof to cover their slurry tank. The self-supporting construction fulfils two tasks: Increasing economic efficiency and climate protection. The quality of the slurry is maintained while emissions are reduced to a minimum.
The project at a glance
By covering a slurry tank with an emission protection roof, the escaping gases can be reduced by up to 85%. In most parts of Germany, the construction or retrofitting of a tank cover is not yet mandatory, but both are subsidised with substantial grants. There were several reasons behind the Steinhögl family’s decision to cover their existing tank with an emission protection roof:
The roof prevents the entry of water through rain, while the nitrogen content and storage volume of the slurry remain constant. At the same time, ammonia emissions decrease. With them, odour pollution decreases significantly. The patented construction with a diameter of 18.50 m does not require a central support and could be installed without emptying the tank. A crane lifted the cone-shaped, galvanised steel construction, covered with a resistant plastic membrane, onto the existing tank. The roof was then braced to the tank wall with galvanised pipes and belt ratchets. A 1.20 m x 1.50 m beaded hatch was installed so that Anton Steinhögl could easily look into the tank in order to carry out visual inspections.
