Existing space put to good use:
Storage hall on silo wall
To store firewood and machinery, the Steinkellner family in Styria unceremoniously built a gable-roofed hall directly on top of the already existing silo walls.
The project at a glance
In the Styrian Enns Valley in the district of Liezen stands this storage hall with more than 400 m2 of floor space. The special feature is hardly recognisable from the outside: it stands on silo walls. Because storage space was becoming scarce, the Steinkellner family converted one of their existing silos into a warehouse without further ado. This brought several advantages:
- The existing storage space was put to good use
- Additional entrance height due to concrete walls
- Anchoring without concrete foundations (with bolt anchors on concrete wall)
AGROTEL realised a saddle roof construction made of slim double T-beams, which was placed directly on the cast-in-place concrete walls. It was statically designed for the local snow load of up to 3.50 kN/m2. The upper part of the clad gable end is made of air-permeable mesh material to ensure an optimal indoor climate for dry timber storage.
