The most beautiful cows come from Hunsrück.

Looking at the Faust family’s 200 dairy cows, one thing is immediately apparent: the animals are happy and outstanding beautiful. Animal welfare is a top priority for Bastian Faust – his “girls” thank him for it.

    The project at a glance

Since the Faust family farm moved to the outskirts of Niederweiler in the 1960s, it has been constantly growing. For Bastian Faust, the constant development of his farm is indispensable for successful management. The welfare of his animals is his top priority. When he repeatedly emphasises that “my cows are the most beautiful”, this sentence not only contains a huge amount of passion, but also a great deal of truth.

Since 2016, the 200 or so dairy cows have been living in a new feel-good valley. Since then, their contentment, their curiosity and their shine have grown every day, says Faust. The spacious loose housing is equipped with windbreak curtains on both sides, which can be used for ventilation as well as for shading. This allows fresh air and plenty of daylight to flow into the barn at any time of the year. In the summer months, the cows also enjoy an outdoor exercise area.

The newly built calf barn also leaves nothing to be desired. The short sides can be opened almost completely by means of individually fitted, textile roller doors. They contribute to an optimal stable climate and facilitate daily work. The fast-running service gates can be opened and closed conveniently by radio control from the tractor.

For some time now, the faust family has also been focusing on direct marketing. Under the name “Adelborn Rind”, high-quality meat products from happy cattle are offered. The project stands for awareness of regionality, quality and good taste.
