Animal welfare calf barn in Italy

Almost 30° in the shade is not uncommon in Milan in the summer months. Nevertheless, the calves of the Canegrati family are cool. We convinced ourselves of this and asked Mr. Canegrati a few questions about his new animal welfare calf barn. Read more in the interview!

    The project at a glance

Mr Canegrati, why did you choose the AGROTEL Cosyhome calf village?

I run this farm together with my parents and other employees, so we decided to work together with AGROTEL. First and foremost, we wanted to improve animal welfare and reduce the use of medication. At the same time, we were looking for a solution with less labour to increase overall profitability.

How have you raised your calves so far?

Before, the calves lived in igloos between 0 and 60 days, and there were problems with heat and rain in both summer and winter. And now, with this roofed solution, the problems have all but disappeared. Especially the small calves spend a lot of time in the outdoor igloos. They create an ideal microclimate and counteract the cold stress.

    What has improved concretely?

My mother is the one who takes care of the calves. With the roofing, we have improved their working conditions many times over. In addition, we save about two hours of daily working time compared to the old system due to the entry possibilities and the tilting function of the igloos.

What do you particularly appreciate about the AGROTEL Cosyhome?

We chose AGROTEL as our partner mainly because of the roofing system. The roofing is translucent, so it is always very bright inside during the day. In addition, the roof has an insulating effect, which makes it pleasantly cool inside the barn in summer. And there is another point that is becoming more and more noticeable: We need less feed, because the roof and the feed grids mean that less has to be thrown away.

Thank you very much, Mr Canegrati.
